ZTE today unveiled its Axon 60 Ultra in China which brings dual satellite connectivity with the ability to make calls and send texts via China’s Tiantong satellite system. The Axon 60 Ultra will be limited to the Chinese government and enterprise markets and will not be available to regular customers.
ZTE has also added a multi-antenna switching algorithm that allows the phone to simultaneously combine cellular and satellite networks for improved data transmission, lower latency and improved connectivity even in poor cellular coverage.
The Axon 60 Ultra also supports 5G-Advanced (aka 5.5G) which is China Mobile’s new high-speed 5G network that offers downlink speeds of up to 10Gbps and uplink of up to 1Gbps. Another notable bit of the Axon 60 Ultra is the dual-system architecture that includes user mode and kernel mode. The former allows apps to run with limited access for greater system security while the latter gives the OS unlimited access to hardware resources.
The Axon 60 Ultra is built around a 6.78-inch OLED with 1220p resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. There is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset paired with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage.
On the back is a 50MP main cam with OIS, along with a 50MP ultrawide shooter and a dedicated macro lens. A punch hole on the front houses a 32MP front-facing camera The Axon 60 Ultra houses a 6,000 mAh silicon carbon battery with 80W wired charging. The device also has IP68 water and dust resistance.
ZTE has not revealed any pricing or availability details for the Axon 60 Ultra.
