Carl Pei says Nothing Phone (2a) isn’t powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7200

The teaser campaign for Nothing’s upcoming phone (2a) is currently in full steam ahead of the phone’s official unveiling on March 5. Today, Nothing’s CEO Carl Pei directly stated that the phone (2a) will not be powered by MediaTek’s Dimension 7200 SoC, contrary to what we’ve heard many rumors about over the past few weeks.

The teaser post on X is embedded above. We gather that Nothing will announce the chipset on February 20 at 10am London time, so in just a few hours. This gives us a little time to speculate. So what do you think it will be?

For what it’s worth, some X guys are betting on a “Dimension 7200 Ultra” or some other “customized” chipset – which seems to be all the rage in some parts of the smartphone world for some brands. Let’s see if Nothing can rebrand a chip to make its phone feel special. Hopefully not, but it wouldn’t be out of the question.

However, the Nothing Phone (2a) sports a 6.7-inch FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED screen, 8/12GB RAM, 128/256GB storage, two 50 MP cameras on the back (one main, one ultrawide) and supports 45W charging. Pricing is rumored at €349 for the 8/128GB model and €399 for the 12/256GB iteration.
