HarmonyOS Next is almost ready, will drop Android app support

Huawei unveiled HarmonyOS Next to developers this summer as the future OS for all Huawei devices. According to Richard Yu, HarmonyOS Next is almost ready to roll out to end users and all native applications have been updated.

One major omission from the operating system – Android APK support. HarmonyOS Next cannot install Android apps or read Android code.

While HarmonyOS Next appears to be visually identical to the running HarmonyOS, Huawei has dropped Android library support.

It seems Huawei is getting more serious about its in-house OS. According to sources on the Zhilian recruitment platform, companies are busy recruiting talent to develop HarmonyOS.

Major positions include software development, mobile development, and software testing in the areas of Internet, computer software, and telecommunications/value-added services.

More than 75% of positions require a bachelor’s degree and more than 3 years of work experience and offer an average salary.
